Referee/Assistant Referee Duties

All officials for the NWASL must abide by the Laws of the Game and the NWASL Rules and Regulations.

The Referee, with the help of the assistant referees, is responsible for completing the match report prior to and at the conclusion of the match, and return the completed match report to the field binder inside the equipment bucket. The match report includes the officials' names, team names, the half-time and final score of the match, and a summary of disciplinary actions taken and Sportsmanship Points awarded/deducted. If cautions and/or sendoffs are issued, the Referee is responsible for recording these on the match report, as well as submitting a Misconduct Report as outlined under Reporting.

Fourth Official Duties

In addition to the duties for fourth officials outlined by FIFA and USSF, the fourth official is responsible for conducting the player check-in 20 minutes prior to game time. The fourth official must ensure all players listed on the roster have proper picture identification, as well as properly identifying and recording loan players that may be used by a team. Players with no entries in the roster, with the exception of loan players, or with missing pictures are NOT to be allowed to play. The fourth official also assists the field referees in determining and recording the game results, cautions and sendoffs, and sportsmanship points, and provides the referee administrator with reports or assessments of player and/or referee behavior during matches.

Reporting

Sendoffs MUST be documented by filling out and submitting a Misconduct Report. Give this report to the Regional Referee Administrator within 24 hours of the game. Cautions and sendoffs should also be entered into the match report at the completion of the match.
